Marine Life

Our water holds over 2300 different species of Fish and over 400 varieties of both hard and soft corals; Sea Turtles, Reef Sharks, Nudibranchs and seasonal visitors like manta rays or even Humpback Whales.

The strong tidal current which constantly replenishes the reef with an abundance of nutrients brings many fish. The Rainbow Reef is located in the Somosomo straight between Taveuni and Vanua Levu creating a giant funnel shape.

When the tides are rising and dropping the water gets pushed through this narrow channel which starts the entire food cycle. The stronger the current the more life you will find on a reef.

Every critter on the reef is looking for food, all the Dendronephya Corals (soft Corals) inflate themselves and are using the movement of the water to get more nutrients to their polyps.
